Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) on Monday announced a preliminary challenge to House Freedom Caucus Chairman Bob Goode (R-Va.) by Virginia Sen. John McGuire (R-Va.). Upheld the motion.
Greene, one of former President Trump's closest allies in Congress, harshly criticized Goode for supporting Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) over Trump in the presidential race for the first time.
Goode announced his support for Trump on Sunday after DeSantis withdrew from the race.
“John McGuire is a Navy SEAL who has been by President Donald J. Trump's side since he came down the escalator,” Greene wrote. “He is a proven fighter with a strong track record on the conservative vote as a Virginia delegate and state senator!”
She went on to personally attack the Virginia congressman, calling him a “traitor” to the Make America Great Again (MAGA) movement, which is based on President Trump's campaign slogan.
“Bob Good is an angry, dishonest MAGA traitor who was caught on camera bashing President Trump and doing everything in his power to bring down President Trump,” she said. “Bob Good is no good and cannot be trusted.”
“John McGuire will help make America great again and will never let Trump Reno Bob Good lie to the people,” the passionate Georgia Republican said. added. “The choice here is clear: John McGuire is the conservative, pro-Trump candidate in Virginia's 5th District.”
Goode has faced backlash from other Trump supporters who have attacked him for supporting DeSantis and say he is inconsistent.
The conservative Virginia PAC recently rolled out its first ad targeting Good, releasing a 30-second ad spot titled “Which Bob.”
“On camera, Bob Good said Trump is fine. But the difference between a bad Bob and a good Bob is night and day,” the ad's narrator says.
“You're asking me privately, I don't say this in public,” Good's clip says.
In another video, the Virginia Republican says, “We cannot stand by and regret nominating Mr. Trump.”
McGuire has also criticized Good's support for DeSantis during his campaign.
He called on Republicans to “return President Donald J. Trump to the White House, unite the Republican Party behind Trump, and focus on defeating the Democratic Party and its Marxist, freedom-crushing policies.” Ta. [and] Deliver results for the American people. ”
