Greene accuses Zelensky of trying to 'sabotage' Trump-Putin summit with drone strikes on Russia

Greene Accuses Zelensky of Sabotaging Peace Talks

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) has accused Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky of undermining peace discussions between President Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin by launching drone strikes. “The eve of the historic peace talks between President Trump and Putin, Zelensky will do this,” Greene stated on social media. She expressed skepticism about Zelensky’s commitment to peace, suggesting he is working against Trump’s efforts to resolve the conflict in Ukraine.

On Thursday, Ukraine initiated an attack on Russia, resulting in at least one fatality and several injuries.

“I pray that peace will win!” Greene added in her post.

The Ukrainian Embassy has not yet responded to requests for comment.

Greene has been a vocal critic of U.S. involvement in the war for over three years, often condemning the Biden administration for arming Ukraine.

A bipartisan group of lawmakers has suggested implementing additional sanctions on Russian trading partners to curb their ability to finance foreign wars. However, the Trump administration has postponed plans to enact new tariffs on Russia and its allies, which were set to go into effect last Friday.

On the same day, Putin commended Trump for his “energy and sincere efforts” toward achieving peace in Ukraine. Trump is scheduled to meet with Russian leaders at Elmendorf Richardson’s joint base, notably absent Zelensky.

Earlier this week, Zelensky indicated the possibility of a follow-up trilateral meeting if ceasefire proposals advanced. Yet, ahead of Friday’s summit, he expressed skepticism about Putin’s true intentions, suggesting that the Russian leader might simply be looking for a photo opportunity with Trump. “Frankly, it’s all he wants because it’s a photo,” Zelensky told reporters at Kiev’s Presidential Palace.

Despite facing strong resistance from Ukraine, Putin continues to push for control over the Donbas region. Trump has implied that “land exchanges” may be necessary for any resolution, which poses a significant hurdle to peace discussions.
