Greene files ethics complaint against Fani Willis

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) accused Georgia’s Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis of failing to disclose a “luxury vacation” she took with top Georgia prosecutor Nathan Wade. An ethics lawsuit was filed against Mr. She acknowledged that she had a “personal relationship” with prosecutors in former President Trump’s Georgia criminal case.

A four-page ethics complaint filed Tuesday with the Georgia Ethics Commission says Willis violated Georgia government transparency and campaign finance laws by failing to disclose “questionable relationships and transactions” he had with Wade. claims.

However, it is not clear whether the commission has jurisdiction over the complaints brought by Mr. Green. It will investigate Willis’ failure to file a disclosure report, which Georgia lawmakers allege was negligent, but it likely won’t address the substance of her complaint. The commission does not investigate “the ethical or moral conduct of candidates, lobbyists, or public officials,” nor does it investigate “misuse of state or local funds.”

The charges in Greene’s complaint stem from former President Trump’s co-defendant, Mike Roman, filing a motion seeking to disbar Willis from a mass extortion and election interference case. Roman claimed that Willis and Wade traveled together to “traditional vacation destinations” such as the Caribbean and Napa Valley.

Mr. Greene, a close ally of Mr. Trump, claims Mr. Wade was paid about $700,000 for his work on Mr. Trump’s case, making him a “national power” and thus Mr. Willis He suggested that any expenditures made between people should be disclosed.

of the law she mentionedHowever, it only requires public officials to disclose payments for “speaking engagements, seminars, participation in discussion panels, or other activities directly related to the filer’s official duties.”

The two men responded to Roman’s accusations against them earlier this month, some of which were included in Tuesday’s complaint, saying their relationship began after Wade was hired. “Financial responsibility for personal travel is shared almost equally between the two parties.”

But Mr Green said Willis could not prove his contribution to the marital costs and suggested he had acted improperly in some way.

“Upon information and belief, Fani Willis received travel compensation from her secret boyfriend, Special Counsel Nathan Wade, for a luxury cruise vacation in the Caribbean and a visit to Napa Valley,” the complaint states. It’s dark. “These revelations exposed the public to her inappropriate relationship with her secret lover, special counsel Nathan Wade, and led to the already false indictment against former President Trump and 18 co-defendants. has been illegally tainted.”

Mr. Willis disputed this claim in previous court filings.

“To be absolutely clear, Special Counsel Wade’s personal relationship with District Attorney Willis has never involved any direct or indirect financial benefit to District Attorney Willis.” The Fulton County Prosecutor’s Office said in a filing.

Mr Willis also said the allegations were “sneaky” and “designed to gain” media attention in court filings.

In a statement, Greene called Willis’ failure to publicize the trip “an epic scandal.”

“Fanny Willis cannot be trusted to perform her duties impartially. Improper, unethical, and potentially illegal conduct has plagued her investigation from the beginning,” she wrote.

“Willis’ refusal to disclose his relationships and financial transactions shows a blatant disregard for the law and ethical standards,” she added.

Mr. Green’s complaint accuses Mr. Willis of “collusion.”[ing]” over a meeting that arose from a White House adviser and — efforts to gather evidence for the case.

Tuesday’s charges are not the first time Greene has led the case against Trump in Georgia and gone after Willis.Last month she filed a complaint He called on Georgia Governor Brian Kemp (R) and Attorney General Chris Carr (R) to investigate Willis after Roman claimed he had an inappropriate relationship with Wade. Greene called this an “unlawful conflict of interest.”

But Willis has fought efforts to remove her from the case, including a recent effort by Roman’s team to subpoena her and Wade’s testimony.

“Georgia law, like authorities across the country, has predictably frowned upon procedures that allow one litigant’s attorney to compel testimony from the opposing party’s attorneys or employees, and here we depart from that general principle. There is no good reason to do so,” Fulton County prosecutors wrote in a filing Wednesday.
