Greenwich Village couple gains attention for using the Empire State Building as their Christmas tree topper

Unique Christmas Tree View in Greenwich Village

In New York City this Christmas, there’s a particularly eye-catching tree. A couple in Greenwich Village was busy decorating their Christmas tree last week when they noticed something unexpected: the Empire State Building framed perfectly above their tree, almost like a grand ornament.

The iconic building’s lights shine brightly just above the spruce tree in Regina Molina and Ryan Snyder’s fifth-floor apartment on West 8th Street.

“I thought the tree would look best in the center of the window, and when I stepped to the side, it just lined up perfectly,” Snyder, 30, shared with enthusiasm.

Molina, 31, shared this surprising New York City Christmas moment on TikTok, and it quickly went viral, gathering 2 million views in just three days. Their post even caught the attention of influencers like @newyorkers, who shared it with their massive following.

The couple, who enjoy reading the comments on their posts, received reactions like “Congratulations on your Christmas win,” and “The most expensive tree topper ever made.”

People were captivated by their now-famous tree, which is adorned with New York-themed decorations, including a pizza slice, a MetroCard, and a mouse clutching a classic blue coffee cup. One viewer commented, “This is the magic of Christmas.”

Molina mentioned that some viewers expressed a desire to see the tree in person, highlighting how unique the setup is.

Viewers from outside the city seemed surprised and somewhat enchanted, commenting, “Sometimes I forget that New York City is a real place where people actually live.”

However, some wondered about the couple’s living situation, joking about the high rent that must come with such a view. Comments like, “That’s another level of riches,” and “I can only imagine the taxes,” suggested a mix of admiration and envy.

Snyder, who works in finance, and Molina, a lawyer, found the perception amusing. “It’s funny because it feels like you’re looking at the top of a skyscraper,” Snyder reflected. “People assume we have the best penthouse in Manhattan or something, but that’s not the case at all.”
