Gregg Doyel suspended, banned from Fever games for Caitlin Clark exchange

The Indianapolis Star has suspended sports columnist Greg Doyle after his embarrassing exchange with Caitlin Clark at a news conference.

The Indiana Fever selected Clark with the first overall pick in the WNBA Draft and introduced her to the media on April 17.

“I love you being here, I love you being here,” Doel said.

Mr Clark explained that he had made such gestures towards his family, to which Mr Doyle responded: “If you start doing that to me, we’ll be fine.”

Doyle has not reported since being drafted by the Colts in the NFL draft on April 29, and missed Clark’s preseason debut and the series opener between the Pacers and Knicks, who defeated the Bucks in the first round of the NBA playoffs. .

Shortly after his bizarre exchange with Clark, Doyle wrote an apology column.

“I now understand what I said and how I said it was wrong, wrong, wrong. I mean, it was just that. mistaken” he concluded the column. “Caitlin Clark, I’m so sorry.”

Mr. Doyle did not immediately respond to an email from the Post asking for further comment.
