Greta Thunberg receives criticism for sharing an image of Israeli hostages in a post about Palestinians

Swedish activist Greta Thunberg is encountering criticism for a recent Instagram post that featured images of Israeli hostages, which she used to highlight the suffering of Palestinians. The post stated, “The suffering of Palestinian prisoners is not a matter of opinion. It is the fact of systemic atrocities and dehumanization. Humanity cannot make a choice. There is no border in justice.” Among the photos was one of Evyatal David, a hostage taken during an attack on the Nova Music Festival on October 7, 2023.

This photo, taken from a Hamas propaganda video, showed David in a frail state discussing his plight and stating he hadn’t eaten for days. In a particularly jarring moment from the video, he was forced to dig his own grave, leaving many viewers profoundly unsettled.

The Israeli government has labeled Thunberg’s allegations regarding prisoners as “a bright red lie.” David’s younger sister, Ela, commented that Thunberg should research her claims before sharing content that she doesn’t fully grasp. She expressed that keeping the post up could lead to mockery and embarrassment.

Notably, the post has since been edited, and the slides with David’s images are currently missing. Nevertheless, comments still allude to the original images, with many users expressing discontent about the inaccuracies in Thunberg’s post.

Thunberg’s post was part of a collaborative effort involving her and members from the Free Fleet Union. The first slide addressed detainees from the Smud Fleet, speaking of their suffering and fear. It drew parallels to the conditions of Palestinian inmates in Israeli prisons, where activists allege up to 11,000 Palestinians are held in harsh environments.

This post also referenced a video from 2015 featuring Ahmad Manasra, a 13-year-old boy arrested during a stabbing incident in Jerusalem, which is often linked to the “Knife Intifada.” The Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs shared a screenshot of the controversial slide along with David’s photo, underscoring their stance on the matter.

Thunberg, who rose to prominence for her advocacy on climate change during her school years, has voiced her opinions on Israel amid the ongoing Gaza conflict. She participated in two humanitarian fleets to Gaza that were intercepted by Israeli forces. Fox News Digital has reached out to Thunberg for her response.
