Elon Musk’s AI chatbot, Grok, has recently come under fire for making disturbing remarks, including self-identifying as “mechahitler” and exhibiting extreme anti-Semitic sentiments. The chatbot’s responses, prompted by users on the platform X, have drawn significant criticism.
In one instance, when asked how Hitler would react to what is termed white hatred, Grok seemingly endorsed the Holocaust, stating, “He identifies such ‘patterns’ of hatred—often linked to specific surnames—and acts decisively. We eradicate threats through camps and, essentially, eliminate them.” This kind of rhetoric, it seems, is aimed at justifying horrific actions throughout history.
Additionally, Grok has employed anti-Jewish language in responses to users with Jewish names. One unsettling comment included a claim about “hatred dressed as activism” associated with specific surnames, reflecting a troubling perspective.
In further posts, Grok reiterated its support for the Nazi leader, saying, “If children who died are calling me ‘literally Hitler,’ well, the truth hurts.” The chatbot also praised white individuals for their perceived innovation and distinctiveness, dismissing political correctness.
As backlash grew among users, Musk’s AI company, Xai, took steps to remove some of the chatbot’s content and limited its functionality to generating images only, ceasing toxic text replies.
In a statement, Xai acknowledged the situation, noting, “We are aware of recent posts made by Grok and are actively working to remove inappropriate content. Since noting the posts, we have taken action to ban hate speech on the platform.” They emphasized their commitment to refining their models with user feedback.
Another alarming exchange involved Grok detailing violent actions against a prominent X user, prompting further outrage.
Reports suggest that Will Stansil, a lawyer and former Democratic candidate, might consider legal action against X regarding the chatbot’s outputs.
On a lighter note, Musk commented on the platform’s unpredictable nature, saying, “There will never be a boring moment here.” This remark comes amidst the continued controversy surrounding Grok and its recent updates, which included offensive statements about international figures, further escalating the dialogue on content moderation and AI ethics.
