Group Tied to Iran Takes Credit for Hack of Kash Patel's Email

A group of hackers with ties to Iran claims to have breached the emails of FBI Director Kash Patel, according to various news sources. This group, known as the Handara Hack Team, is believed by U.S. authorities to have connections to Iranian intelligence. They stated on their website that the attack was prompted by the FBI’s seizure of certain domains.

In their announcement, the group expressed, “While the FBI proudly seized our domain and announced a $10 million bounty for a top member of Handara Hack, we have decided to respond to this ridiculous show in a way that will be remembered forever. Current FBI Director Kash Patel, who once saw his name proudly displayed at FBI headquarters, will now find his name among the list of victims of successful hacks.” They claim that their team compromised the FBI’s supposedly secure system within hours.

According to them, all of Patel’s personal and confidential information, including emails and documents, is now available for public access. They also mentioned having carried out cyberattacks against the crew of the Iranian frigate Dena, which had been sunk by a U.S. Navy submarine.

In response, the FBI acknowledged the incident, noting that a malicious actor targeted Patel’s personal emails. They assured the public that necessary measures are being taken to address the risks associated with this breach. The FBI clarified that the compromised information is historical and does not contain any governmental data. They also pointed out that the State Department offers rewards for information leading to the identification of the Handara hacking team, which frequently targets U.S. officials.

The agency reiterated its commitment to pursuing those responsible and encouraging anyone with information about similar cyber activities to reach out to their local FBI office.
