Guardian Angels were being interviewed on live television from Times Square about the crisis when they assaulted a man they claimed was an immigrant shoplifter, but police say the man was only trying to disrupt the filming. They claim that it was a pest.
The group’s founder, Curtis Sliwa, was speaking on Fox News late Tuesday about immigrant crime in the city when a fellow member wearing red suddenly ran off.
“While all this was happening, our unit just took down one of the immigrant guys here at the corner of Highway 42 and Highway 7,” Sliwa told stunned host Sean Hannity. Ta.
The camera then pans to show Guardian Angels surrounding and shoving a bespectacled man in a black hooded jacket.
During the scuffle, Sliwa’s volunteers tackled him to the ground, and one of them appeared to put him in a chokehold.
“He was shoplifting,” Sliwa later told Hannity about the disturbance, but did not explain how she or members of the group found out.
“The Guardian Angels found him, stopped him, he resisted, and let’s just say we gave him a little bit of pain compliance.
“His mother in Venezuela felt the vibrations,” the former mayoral candidate quipped again, without explaining why he came to that conclusion.
“He smoked concrete, the cops scraped him off the asphalt, he’s on his way to jail, but they’ll let him go,” he said of an immigrant who was released after assaulting an NYPD officer. He spoke in reference to the scandal surrounding him.

However, the NYPD had a completely different take on the drama.
A police spokesperson told the Post that officers responded to a 911 call about a “unruly male,” but there was no mention of him being an immigrant or a shoplifter.
“Upon arrival, officers observed a male being restrained by a bystander,” the spokesperson said.
“Officers were advised that a man had repeatedly interrupted and attempted to disrupt a live television interview. The man was issued a citation for disorderly conduct.”
During the interview, Sliwa accused Times Square of being overwhelmed with criminal immigrants.
“Sean, we have to take back 42nd Street,” Sliwa said. “These illegal aliens think they own these streets and they think they rule the nights. This is our country, and if they don’t follow the rules… If so, we will drive them back from where they came from.”
Hannity said he accompanied Guardian Angels on patrol in Times Square and suggested the officers were “very grateful” for their efforts.
“Unfortunately, they said ‘stay tuned,’ but what do you think? We’re not gonna let go,” Sliwa said.
“You shoplift, you commit crimes, you assault people, you have no place in our country, and we will make you pay for it.
“We have to fight for what we know is right. You’ve seen a little of this,” he added. “They learned a little bit of what the Guardian Angels were going to do to free Times Square from them.”
Sliwa, who lost the 2021 mayoral race to Eric Adams, began a Fox News interview by naming himself Adams’ “biggest hater” and offering advances to immigrants. “They single-handedly destroyed this city,” he said, attacking his political opponents. Debit card for purchasing food and baby products.
“This mayor doesn’t seem to understand,” Sliwa fumed. “He cares for illegal aliens and abandons his own people, especially the poor African-Americans who elected him mayor of New York over me, Curtis Sliwa.”
Sliwa, 69, was arrested in August during an anti-immigration rally in front of the mayor’s home, where his Guardian Angels became involved in a scuffle between protesters and counter-protesters. Ta.
In 1992, Sliwa admitted to fabrication He committed at least six crimes, including his own kidnapping and robbery, in order to raise the profile of the vigilante group he started at the time.
