Guatemalan Congressman Hector Aldana showed his support for U.S. President-elect Donald Trump this week by wearing a pro-Trump red hat during Congress.
Aldana, a lawmaker from Guatemala's conservative Vamos party, wore a red hat Tuesday during the day's parliament. According to In a Guatemalan newspaper La Oraa lawmaker wore a red hat after opposing the passed Port System Designated Authority Act.
Aldana wore a red hat emblazoned with President Trump's name, the American flag and the phrase “Take Back America.” hat reportedly The remarks drew applause from some of his fellow senators who expressed support for Trump's victory in the Nov. 5 presidential election.
In remarks to reporters in Congress, Aldana called Trump's victory a new opportunity and “refreshment” for Guatemala. The congressman congratulated Americans for voting and stressed, “Today, we stand up for Latin America.”
“I still maintain that we have great Latin American leaders: [Argentine President] like Javier Millay [Salvadoran President Nayib] Mr. Bukele and today we have President Trump,” Aldana said.

Aldana is a member of the conservative Vamos party, which ruled Guatemala from 2020 to January 2024 under the government of former conservative President Alejandro Giammattei. Although Giammattei maintained friendly relations with the United States, he was an active critic of outgoing US President Joe Biden and his administration.
Giammattei said in an exclusive interview with Breitbart News in 2022. criticized Biden supported the idea of buying oil from Venezuela's socialist regime, which he said would be tantamount to “feeding the devil.”
In that interview, Giammattei also said: criticized Vice President Kamala Harris' apparent inaction and lack of communication regarding the migrant crisis at the US southern border. Trump defeated Harris in the November 5 election.
Biden administration authorized Giammattei took office in mid-January, days after the Guatemalan resigned, citing his “involvement in significant corruption” during his presidency.
