Guatemalan Migrant Charged with Murdering 21-Month-Old Boy

A Guatemalan immigrant is now accused of murdering a 21-month-old baby boy in Chester County, Pennsylvania.

Enrique Lopez Gómez, a 20-year-old immigrant from Guatemala, was arrested. Charged He was charged with third-degree murder and manslaughter in the death of 21-month-old Anilson Mauricio Perez Gomez last weekend.

According to the Chester County District Attorney’s Office, Lopez Gomez punched Anilson in the stomach while he was watching her on June 24. A short time later, Gomez picked up Anilson and took him to his sister’s house, where Anilson was found unconscious.

Lopez Gómez arrived at the home and performed a Guatemalan healing ritual on Anilson before leaving. The child’s uncle eventually called 911, and when police arrived they found Anilson wrapped in a blanket, with no pulse, and with white foam coming from his mouth.

Anilson died after being taken to a nearby children’s hospital, where an autopsy revealed she died from blunt force trauma to the abdomen.

“[Lopez Gomez] “They brutally inflicted injuries on a toddler in their care and denied the child medical attention, causing his death,” Chester County District Attorney Christopher de Barrena Sarove said in a statement.

“Mr. [Lopez Gomez] “He struck the child at least once in the abdomen, denied the child medical attention and the child ultimately died,” Barena Salove said.

The boy’s aunt said she and his mother had lived in Chester County for less than a year but thought Lopez-Gomez was a responsible adult, and that he had lived in the area for about five years, according to the aunt.

Lopez-Gomez is being held in police custody on $10 million bail while the murder investigation continues. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has issued a detention order against Lopez-Gomez, requesting that he be held if released at any time.
