Tragic Incident at Missouri Grain Factory
Recently, authorities discovered a Guatemalan man, who had been using an alias, dead inside an industrial oven at a grain factory in Missouri. The individual, identified as Nicholas Lopez Gomez, 38, was reportedly working under the name Edward Avila.
Emergency personnel, including police, firefighters, and medical services, were dispatched to the Gilster-Mary Lee grain factory in Perryville after reports of a man trapped inside the oven. Unfortunately, by the time they arrived, Gomez had already passed away.
The Perry County Coroner responded quickly to the scene. They will be collaborating with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) to investigate how this tragedy occurred, according to Coroner Meghan Ellis.
While requests for comments were sent to both OSHA and the Gilster-Mary Lee Corporation, responses were not immediately available.
Gilster-Mary Lee Corporation has been in operation for 125 years, with 11 locations across three states in the Midwest. They emphasize producing “safe and quality foods” that are sold under various private labels and to foodservice companies. The company’s facilities, including cereal and mixed plants, can be found across from the grain factory in Perryville.
