Indian Man Fatally Shot in the US

A fatal shooting involving an Indian-origin man, Paresh Patel, occurred in the US, where he was targeted by an assailant posing as a customer. The troubling incident, which unfolded inside a store, was captured on CCTV.

Patel hailed from Dincha, a village in Gujarat, India. Reports indicate that the shooter entered the store, pretending to be a client. He first demanded money at the cash register, an act that initially seemed to intimidate Patel into compliance. However, after obtaining the cash, the attacker shot him.

In a broader context, the Indian government has reported that 86 Indian citizens faced violent attacks or were killed abroad in 2023 alone. Foreign Minister Kirti Vardhan Singh discussed this alarming statistic, noting that of these incidents, 12 took place in the US, with others occurring in Canada, the UK, and Saudi Arabia.

“Ensuring the safety of Indians overseas is a top priority for our government,” Singh stated. He emphasized that Indian missions abroad remain vigilant and closely monitor serious cases, ensuring they are communicated with local authorities for prompt investigations and accountability.
