Gunman Dead After Injuring Nine People, Two Children At Water Park, Police Say

A gunman was found dead at a water park in Rochester Hills on Saturday, police said, shooting 10 people, including two children.

According to Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard, the incident occurred around 5 p.m., when a “random” gunman got out of a vehicle and fired 28 rounds from a handgun.

The gunman used a 9mm Glock handgun, loaded it and fired again. Detroit News Authorities later recovered the weapon, and police identified the suspect through analysis of data left at the shooting scene. (RELATED: Video captures the moment gunmen allegedly opened fire on eight students)

The sheriff said at a news conference that the shooter barricaded himself in a home near the park before SWAT teams arrived, and that he remained in the home before eventually shooting himself. ClickOnDetroitBouchard explained that the shooting appeared to be random.

The victims suffered multiple injuries, and one of those shot was just 8 years old, ClickOnDetroit reported.

Several politicians expressed sympathy for the shooting victims, including Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, who said in a post on X that her “heart is broken to hear about the shooting in Rochester Hills.”

“Under no circumstances should a father in this country have to spend Father’s Day in the hospital,” Rep. John James, who appeared at the press conference with Sheriff Bouchard, said, according to the Detroit News. “This is an American epidemic that must be solved.”
