Gunman Shane Tamura injures NFL worker in shooting at 345 Park Ave

An NFL employee was among those injured in a tragic shooting on Monday at a skyscraper in midtown that houses the league’s offices.

In a message to league personnel, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell mentioned that one employee sustained serious injuries during the incident at 345 Park Avenue. He stated the individual is currently hospitalized and in stable condition. Goodell reassured staff that the NFL is supporting the injured employee’s family and confirmed that all other employees are safe.

Monday evening turned chaotic when Shane Tamura, the shooter, armed with a rifle, made his way toward the 44-story office building. He ultimately took his own life inside the premises.

While officials have not publicly named the three victims, they did confirm the identity of a 36-year-old NYPD officer, Didarul Islam, who was injured during the attack.

In his note to employees, Goodell expressed gratitude toward law enforcement and those who risked their lives during the incident.

Goodell acknowledged the prompt and decisive action taken by officers responding to the situation, noting the sacrifices made by several in the line of duty.

The NFL occupies several floors within the midtown building, and employees were instructed to evacuate as chaos erupted, according to ESPN.

At a press conference following the shooting, city officials detailed the harrowing events that transpired on Monday evening. Tamura, a 27-year-old resident of Las Vegas, entered the building at around 6:30 PM armed and began shooting in the lobby before moving to the 33rd floor, where he ended his life.

Both New York City Mayor Eric Adams and NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tish showed visible signs of distress during the briefing. Adams reported that one individual was critically injured, while others managed to escape with minor injuries.

The motivation behind Tamura’s actions remains unclear, although it has been noted he had a documented history of mental health issues. Tish mentioned investigators are working to determine why this specific location was targeted.
