Gunmen arrested in connection with New Year's bridge incident in Dallas, facing several charges

Video of Gunmen on Dallas Bridge Sparks Investigation and Arrests

A video that emerged on New Year’s Day, showing individuals firing weapons from a bridge in Dallas, has gained significant attention. According to police, these suspects are linked to several incidents of gun violence throughout North Texas, resulting in multiple arrests and immigration holds.

The Dallas Police Department announced on Tuesday that they have taken into custody two of the individuals seen in the videos: Anthony Acevedo, 20, and Jose Alarcon-Sanchez, 18, both hailing from Grand Prairie. They were identified as part of a group that recklessly discharged firearms from the Margaret McDermott Bridge, which spans Interstate 30 just west of downtown Dallas.

This reckless shooting was captured on video and has sparked public outrage, leading to an extensive investigation.

Detectives from the Central Patrol Division, along with the Special Investigations Unit, have teamed up with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the U.S. Attorney’s Office to conduct a comprehensive inquiry. They recovered over 100 shell casings in proximity to the bridge during their investigation.

Interestingly, Alarcon-Sanchez had been arrested earlier on January 1 for a firearm-related incident by the Grand Prairie Police Department.

As the investigation progressed, authorities discovered ties between a 25-year-old suspect, Anderson Darce Lara, and a separate road rage shooting that occurred in November. Reports state that Lara fired several shots into a car with three adults and three children inside, narrowly avoiding a tragedy.

With the ATF’s support, detectives executed search warrants revealing several firearms, including a rifle that matches the one seen in the viral video. This has further solidified the connection between Lara and the events in question.

Acevedo and Alarcon-Sanchez are facing charges in some municipalities for discharging a firearm, which is classified as a Class A misdemeanor. In contrast, Lara has been charged with six counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, categorized as first-degree felonies.

Currently, Acevedo has been released on bail, while Alarcon-Sanchez and Lara remain in custody under immigration authorities.

Dallas Police Chief Daniel Comeau emphasized the department’s commitment to public safety, stating, “If you put your life at risk in Dallas, we will identify you, thoroughly investigate you, and hold you accountable.” The investigation is still unfolding.
