Gustavo Petro alleged to have exchanged public contracts for sexual favors

Accusations Against Former Colombian President Gustavo Petro

Former Colombian President Gustavo Petro faces serious allegations involving the exploitation of 48 women for his presidential events. Officials have claimed these women were supposedly employed “just to be with President Petro.”

Carlos Andrés Ríos, who heads Colombia’s Administrative Department of the Presidency (DAPRE), asserted that Petro created a system that systematically used service contracts to control the women, essentially trading public salaries for personal relationships.

“We will demonstrate to the Colombian people how the Casa de Nariño was unfortunately organized — not for governance, but for partying daily and bringing in women,” Ríos stated at a congressional hearing last week.

In response to the claims, Petro publicly denied any wrongdoing, asserting that he has never exchanged contracts for sexual favors. “I would be appalled with myself if I ever did such a thing,” he expressed in a statement posted on social media.

Petro claimed that while his administration has provided state-funded aid programs to assist vulnerable women, this is entirely different from giving contracts in return for sexual activities.

Petro’s Past and Current Allegations

Petro also reflected on his youth, admitting to having visited establishments where sex work occurred, noting that he felt uncomfortable with the experience and had stopped going to such places decades ago.

“When I was very young, I occasionally visited places where sex work took place. It felt dirty to me, and I saw the sadness in those who were there. That’s why I stopped going so long ago,” he added.

The accusations against Petro emerge amid broader concerns regarding his management of public funds, national budget depletion, and allegations of drug trafficking. Petro has dismissed these accusations as politically motivated attacks orchestrated by figures like President Donald Trump and Colombian President Abelardo de la Espriella.

In his defense, Petro emphasized, “After attempts to label me as corrupt and a drug trafficker — pushed by people like Abelardo de la Espriella and Donald Trump, without any evidence to back these claims — I want to clarify that I have never stolen a single peso from the public treasury and have spent over two decades fighting against drug traffickers.”

As it stands, these allegations have intensified scrutiny of Petro’s time in office and his administration’s practices.
