Guy Fieri’s Affordable Thanksgiving Tips
Celebrity chef Guy Fieri believes that Thanksgiving can be budget-friendly and is sharing some insightful tips for families looking to celebrate the holiday without breaking the bank.
During a recent conversation, Fieri pointed out that many traditional Thanksgiving foods are quite affordable. He stated, “If you think about it, Thanksgiving is probably one of the most affordable holidays to cook for.” Ingredients like leftover bread can easily be transformed into stuffing, while sweet potatoes and mashed potatoes are generally inexpensive. He acknowledged that turkey can be a bit pricey, yet still affordable compared to options like prime rib.
For smaller gatherings, Fieri suggested considering alternatives to a whole turkey. “If you’re having a party of four, you can buy a skin-on, bone-in turkey breast,” he advised. “Just season it well the day before and let it rest in the fridge before cooking it.” He emphasized how simple and straightforward this method is, making it one of the easiest meats to prepare.
“Cooking is all about timing,” he remarked, encouraging families to practice dishes year-round rather than just at holiday time. He noted that popular sides like stuffing and green bean casserole could be enjoyed on various occasions, not exclusively during Thanksgiving or Christmas.
Fieri also introduced festive cocktails featuring Santo Tequila, a spirits brand he co-founded with Sammy Hagar. As for his family’s Thanksgiving, Fieri confessed that smoking turkey is a must to keep his wife content, especially for those coveted leftover turkey sandwiches. He highlighted the importance of preparing adequately in advance to prevent any last-minute stress on the day itself, saying, “I don’t like being held at gunpoint on Thanksgiving Thursday.” This approach allows them to enjoy a smooth holiday experience without any hiccups.
