Gypsy Rose Blanchard becomes internet sensation after released from prison after murder of mother

Gypsy Rose Blanchard became an overnight internet sensation after being released from prison where she was imprisoned for the murder of her mother.

Experts believe Gypsy's mother, Claudine “Dee Dee” Blanchard, suffered from Munchausen syndrome by proxy.

WebMD Munchausen syndrome by proxy is defined as “a mental disorder characterized by behavior in which the caregiver attempts to gain attention through the person being cared for,'' and that caregivers are “a mental disorder characterized by behavior in which the caregiver attempts to gain attention through the person being cared for.'' Dee Dee convinced Gypsy that she was suffering from a serious illness, including leukemia, muscular dystrophy, and asthma.

Gypsy's mother allegedly forced her to use a wheelchair even though she could walk. Dee Dee also forced her daughter to use a feeding tube. Gypsy said her mother had told her doctor that “her daughter was always sick” and that she was subjected to unwarranted medical procedures and unnecessary medication. Dee Dee also shaved Gypsy's head, removed some of her teeth and had her doctor remove her salivary glands. Dee Dee is also said to have tied Gypsy to her bed with her chains.

Dee Dee even lied about Gypsy's age to make it easier to perpetuate the ruse.

Gypsy spoke on her behalf about her mother's Munchausen syndrome. people magazine“I really feel like it might have been psychological. I wish she had been able to get treatment. She was diagnosed with bipolar disorder and schizophrenia when she was a little younger. So I wasn't taking any medication for that.”

“So if she had taken the medication, things might have been different,” Gypsy added. “But you can't focus on what could have been, should have been, would have been, because you're going too far down the rabbit hole. But that's why you accept what happened. I think that's very important to me now.'' And my choice to commit murder was never the right choice. ”

Gypsy was tired of her mother forcing her to pretend to be sick all the time.

In 2015, Blanchard and her then-boyfriend plotted to kill her mother in her Missouri home.

Gypsy, then 24, provided the knife that her boyfriend, Nicholas Godejohn, used to kill Dee Dee. Meanwhile, when Godejohn stabbed her mother to death, Gypsy hid it in the bathroom.

The couple fled the scene and boarded a bus, but were later arrested in Wisconsin.

Gypsy was initially charged with first-degree murder, which meant she faced life in prison. However, Blanchard struck a deal by pleading guilty to second-degree murder and was sentenced to 10 years in prison.

Greene County Prosecuting Attorney Dan Patterson Said At Gypsy's sentencing, he said, “While the evidence in this case clearly established that Gypsy Blanchard was guilty of murder and that the murder was neither justifiable nor inexcusable, she was sentenced to 10 years on the amended charges. The law fairly and justly holds Gypsy Blanchard accountable.''This law states that the mother systematically and intentionally attacked Gypsy Blanchard for nearly 20 years in furtherance of her mother's fraudulent scheme.'' “We also take into account the extremely mitigating circumstances of abuse.”

Godejohn, 32, was convicted of first-degree murder in 2019 and sentenced to life in prison without parole.

Blanchard was granted parole after serving 85% of her original sentence and was released from Chillicothe Correctional Center in Missouri last Thursday.

Blanchard was picked up by her husband, Ryan Anderson. He was driving a wrestling-themed car with Bret Hart's license plate that read “HITMAN.” The two married last year while she was incarcerated.

Blanchard became an overnight internet sensation, gaining millions of followers.

Gypsy is over 6.4 million More than Instagram followers 6.5 million TikTok followers.

Blanchard's story has captivated millions of true crime enthusiasts and has been retold in multiple documentaries, docuseries, and an upcoming book.

Gypsy Said As for his mother, “She was a sick woman, and unfortunately I wasn't educated enough to understand that. She was where I was, and because of her criminal acts, I deserved to be sitting in jail.”
