Former United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley defeated former President Donald Trump in Washington, D.C., earning her first victory in the 2024 primary.

Haley won with about 63% of the vote, according to an Associated Press call to the race shortly after voting closed on Sunday.The result means the former South Carolina governor will withdraw, taking 19 delegates with him..

Washington, D.C., offered Ms. Haley her best shot at clinching victory and ending Mr. Trump’s undefeated run in the primaries. Trump won the district in an uncontested 2020 primary, but finished third in the 2016 primary behind Florida Sen. Marco Rubio and former Ohio Gov. John Kasich. finished. The seemingly easy victory cemented the former president’s status as the front-runner in the race, and his campaign told Fox News Digital ahead of the results that they were already looking forward to the general election.

“Republican voters delivered resounding victories for President Trump in all primaries, and this campaign is over,” a campaign spokesperson said. “We are now focused on Joe Biden and the general election.”

DC primary is Haley’s best chance to beat Trump

The former president held a commanding lead heading into the D.C. race, receiving 10 times as many delegates as Haley before losing the first primary. Trump still holds a commanding lead heading into the most important week on the calendar, with Haley gaining only a 19-point lead with her victory in the nation’s capital.

Meanwhile, Haley remains the only other candidate and has vowed to remain in the race despite her recent loss in her home state of South Carolina.

Haley’s campaign is looking to carry this momentum into Monday’s race in North Dakota. There, 29 delegates will be elected, and voters in 15 states will head to the polls this week on “Super Tuesday” to decide who will receive 865 votes. Total number of representatives.
