Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley said she has no interest in becoming vice president because she expects the former South Carolina governor to do well in Iowa.
CBS News correspondent Tony Dokoupil asked Haley in an interview aired on “Face the Nation” what she thought about some voters saying they preferred her as vice president rather than president. .
“I'm not going to play a second. I've never played a second. I'm not going to start now. I'm not interested in being vice president. I'm running to be president, and I'm running to win. , and we will,” she told him.
Dokoupil pressed her further on what she would say to voters who support her as vice presidential candidate but still support former President Trump.
“Well, if you want four more years of chaos, I guess that's what you'll get,” she said. “But more worryingly, if you look at the direct polls, Trump and Biden are pretty much tied. The election is going to hurt. We're going to hold our breath. De–I don't want a Kamala Harris president.”
Ms. Haley has faced criticism from her Republican rivals over speculation that she might accept Mr. Trump's offer to be his running mate. The campaign of Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) has launched a website, “Trump Diary 2024,'' claiming that Haley wants to be vice president, not president.
