The Israel Defense Forces announced on Monday that multiple rockets had been fired into Israel from the Gaza Strip, marking the first anniversary of the Hamas terrorist attack that sparked the war.
Military officials said the Israeli Air Force “intercepted five launches that entered Israel from the northern Gaza Strip.” The Jerusalem Post reported. Two people were reported to have suffered minor injuries when they were hit by debris.
“A few minutes ago, sirens were heard in Israeli communities around Gaza,” the IDF wrote to X. “Exactly around this time last year, sirens rang across Israel, marking the beginning of Hamas' October 7 massacre.”
Ahead of the attack, the Israeli military said its forces “struck Hamas terrorist targets and launchers throughout the Gaza Strip” to thwart an “immediate threat.”

“Shortly ago, the Israeli Air Force (IAF) attacked a Hamas launch base and underground terrorist facility,” the IDF added. “Additionally, overnight IAF and IDF artillery struck targets in the central Gaza Strip, threatening IDF forces operating in the area.”
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday visited a memorial in Jerusalem commemorating the civilians, first responders and soldiers killed in the October 7, 2023 Hamas attack.
“We remember the hostages who died in action, the hostages we promise to take back, the heroes who died defending their homeland and country. We experienced a terrible massacre a year ago. But we rose as a nation like a lion,” he said.

There are still 101 hostages held by Hamas in Gaza since the start of the war. Thirty-six of them were confirmed dead, and their bodies are in the custody of the terrorist organization.
Idan Shtibi, a 28-year-old volunteer who volunteered to film the Nova music festival in southern Israel that was attacked by Hamas on October 7, was pronounced dead on Monday.
Idan, an environmental science student, loved nature, camping, and music. He was scheduled to work in the energy sector to fight climate change and join a volunteer program in Africa that helps children.

“On October 7, Idan arrived at the Nova Festival early in the morning to record performances and workshops by his friends. However, he was never allowed inside the venue,” the Hostage and Missing Families Forum said. said in a statement. “When the attack began, Idan helped two strangers he had just met flee the scene. This selfless choice ultimately led to his abduction.”
