IDF Eliminates Hamas Leader Following Violations of Ceasefire

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reported on Wednesday that they have neutralized the Hamas member responsible for the death of Corporal Noah Marciano in Gaza.

This action against the terrorist organization involved Mohammed Issam Hasan al-Khabir and came after a nighttime attack by Hamas that injured an IDF soldier in northern Gaza, violating a ceasefire.

The IDF stated that the major Hamas commander, al-Khabir, was killed in an airstrike that targeted the Shati refugee camp in Gaza City.

The IDF’s official statement noted, “In retaliation for the clear breach of the ceasefire last night, we targeted and eliminated terrorist Mohamed Issam Hassan al-Khabir, leader of the Hamas organization.”

The IDF also revealed, through information gathered by the Israeli Security Agency (ISA), that al-Khabir had recently murdered 19-year-old Marciano, who had been captured by Hamas.

Marciano was abducted from the Nahal Oz outpost during the terrorist group’s attack on October 7th. She suffered injuries from an IDF airstrike while in Hamas custody on November 9, 2023, and was taken to Shifa Hospital in Gaza City.

Her remains were recovered by the IDF later in November and returned to Israel for her burial in Modi’in, where she had been living with her family.

After al-Khabir’s death was confirmed, Marciano’s mother, Adi, expressed the family’s hope for justice, sharing that they had been assured that all responsible for her daughter’s death would be held accountable. “There’s no real comfort in this,” she reflected, “but there’s a feeling of some justice, even if it’s only a small step. Nothing can bring Noah back.”

The IDF stated, “This act brings a measure of closure for the Marciano family, our forces, and the ISA.” They further emphasized their commitment to targeting any terrorists involved in the tragic events of October 7 and preventing future threats against IDF personnel and Israeli civilians.

Regarding ongoing tensions, IDF forces responded to a series of security incidents overnight, including attacks against their troops. A significant incident involved terrorists firing on IDF members in the Daraj Tufa region, resulting in serious injuries to a reserve officer.

As part of their retaliation, IDF forces also targeted suspected assailants identified in connection with al-Khabir’s death. Additional notable casualties included Bilal Abu Assi, a commander in Hamas connected to the October 7 massacre, and Ali Radziana, who led the Islamic Jihad terrorist group’s Northern Gaza Brigade.
