Full Circle for Hannah Harper

It was quite a moment for Hannah Harper, the winner of “American Idol,” as she made her debut at the iconic Grand Ole Opry in Nashville last night.

Harper’s audition had quickly turned into one of the most-viewed segments in the long history of “American Idol,” spanning 24 seasons.

The 26-year-old mother of three expressed her excitement on Facebook after the announcement: “It’s such an honor to step into a circle that conveys so much history, heritage and heart in country music.”

A Special Stage

This historic “circle” at the Opry has roots stretching back to the Ryman Auditorium, where it was originally crafted from maple and oak wood. It was relocated to the newer venue when it was expanded in 1974.

As Harper stepped into that circle, it symbolized not just the start of her new chapter but also a nostalgic reference to where it all began for her.

During her set, she performed her original song “String Cheese,” which garnered a lot of attention during her audition. Just after finishing the first verse, she was surprised to see Carrie Underwood, a fellow “Idol” winner and one of the judges who had supported her journey, joining her on stage.

A Tribute to Motherhood

Harper’s journey to the Opry began with a childhood immersed in bluegrass gospel music, which had been a family tradition. She started singing and writing songs at the age of 9, but it wasn’t until February, when her audition went viral, that she truly emerged as a household name.

Her heartfelt ballad “String Cheese” tackles the complexities of postpartum depression and the tender moments of motherhood. With poignant lyrics and a soulful voice, she resonated with many viewers across America, including Underwood, who found herself moved to tears.

“String Cheese” quickly gained popularity, reaching millions of streams and peaking at No. 14 on Billboard’s Country Digital Song Sales chart. Harper’s audition became one of the standout moments in “American Idol’s” extensive history.

On May 11, in a surprising twist, she was crowned the winner of season 24, marking her as the first female country singer to take the title since Underwood in 2005.

Grounded in Gratitude

Her performance was part of the “Opry 100” celebration during the CMA Fest week, alongside other artists including Underwood and rising star Avery Anna.

Just days before the “Idol” finale, Harper shared with reporters that performing at the Opry was a dream come true for her. “The Opry is my goal… It’s the biggest stage in country music, and the most honorable stage,” she stated.

This performance also marked the start of her “String Cheese Tour,” set to run until November 14 across the United States.

Despite her newfound fame, Harper remains focused on family. She has shared that motherhood is her greatest priority and plans to bring her husband and three sons along on the road with her.

After winning, she recounted advice from Underwood about the importance of maintaining family connections, even as her career takes off. “Carrie wanted me to stay grounded and keep my priorities straight, which are my children and my husband,” she relayed.
