Savannah Guthrie’s Return to the ‘Today’ Show Amid Family Crisis
Savannah Guthrie is set to return to NBC’s Today show. This comes after news surfaced on April 6 about her elderly mother, who has gone missing, and an ongoing investigation.
Since January 30, Guthrie has been absent from the studio, just two days before her mother, Nancy Guthrie, vanished from her home near Tucson, Arizona.
“It’s really tough to think about being back because this place is so filled with joy and light,” Savannah shared. “I can’t walk in and pretend to be someone I’m not, but I feel like I need to return because this is my family. That’s really what drives me right now,” she explained.
“I want to smile. It feels genuine, and when I feel that joy, it serves as my protest and my answer. And honestly, I love being in that environment. If I don’t feel that way, I won’t hesitate to say so. I feel incredibly thankful for my colleagues; they’re like an extended family to me,” she added.
According to reports, Nancy Guthrie, who is 84 years old, was reported missing by her family around noon on February 1, after they last saw her the day before. Authorities have since indicated that the investigation has escalated into a criminal case.
In an update from days after the inquiry began, FBI Director Kash Patel noted that the agency and the Pima County Sheriff’s Office were collaborating to locate video footage from Nancy’s residence that may have been damaged or otherwise made inaccessible, potentially due to equipment being removed.
He stated, “The video has been retrieved from residual data systems. This morning, law enforcement made new discoveries, finding images showing an armed individual who seemed to interfere with Nancy Guthrie’s door camera on the morning she disappeared.” The images depicted a person dressed in a mask, jacket, gloves, and carrying a backpack near her front door.
“If anyone has information, please reach out to 1-800-CALL-FBI or visit tips.fbi.gov,” Patel encouraged.
Recent developments in the case indicate that Savannah’s family has been cleared as potential suspects. However, a couple in Tucson claimed they discovered a bloody glove and a stone with dried blood while walking in the desert, about a mile from their home, shortly after Nancy went missing.
“Officials maintained the scene’s integrity, took photographs, and contacted the Pima County Sheriff’s Office regarding the suspected abduction,” reports stated. “They also called 911 due to concerns about approaching rain,” it continued. Investigators interviewed the couple, and evidence teams remained at the scene until 2 a.m., based on local coverage.
As the investigation proceeds, Savannah Guthrie’s family has reached out to neighbors and the community for assistance.
In their statement, they expressed, “Local residents might possess information they aren’t even aware could be crucial. We hope everyone reflects on their memories, particularly around the significant dates of January 31, early February 1, and the evening of January 11.”
They added, “We urge this community to renew interest in our mother’s case. Please pay attention to any camera footage, notes, texts, or conversations that may seem trivial but could ultimately be significant. Every detail is important; it might be the key to solving this mystery.”
