Happy couple celebrates wedding day with McDonald’s run and cash savings

The happy couple gave up on the idea of ​​having a big, expensive wedding and instead celebrated their “dream wedding” for under $600.

The British couple, identified solely as Ellie, 26, and Alex, 27, said their original plans for the wedding day would cost around £8,000 and just over $10,000 in the US.

Instead, they learned that they could get married for just over $70 in the local registry office without “pressure to impress guests,” Ellie said, as reported by news agency Jam Press. .

Ellie wore a white gown that costs around $300, while Alex wore a $188 suit.

Instead of the thousands of dollars they had planned to spend, they only spent about $574 on their June 2024 wedding, they said.

Rather than having a traditional catering wedding, Lovebird went to McDonald's drive-thru and grabbed a cheeseburger and soda.

“We couldn't justify spending £20,000 to £30,000 one day,” Ellie told Jam Press.

“I just wanted to get married.”

Her husband “liked big weddings,” she said to Ellie, “that's my idea of ​​hell.”

“I just wanted to get married,” she added.

The man proposes to his girlfriend along the way while he is on the flight.

The other venues the pair saw would have cost a lot of money – “And our guests would have had to book a room on top of it,” she said.

The couple's family also helped to cover some of the costs of the event. Ellie's mother gave her a bouquet and the bride told Jam Press while her friend made her hair.

“It was very good,” she said. “When my friend was doing my hair, she would ask if I was nervous, and I wasn't at all.”

After the wedding, they held a small reception for 20 family and friends, and parents paid over $600 for the office venue, buffet and DJ.

They also saved the cost of the photo by having Alex's brother take photos.

Guests were given disposable cameras to take photos of themselves during the reception.
