Vice President Kamala Harris said Tuesday during an appearance on radio host Charlamagne the God Show that she doesn't mind calling Donald Trump's campaign fascists.
Democratic candidates joined popular radio personalities to take questions from listeners and appear in sometimes tense live town halls to appeal to Black voters with Election Day just three weeks away.
Harris, 59, was explaining how voters had to choose between her campaign and Trump's when Charlemagne (real name Leonard McKelvey) brought up fascism.
“One [choice]”It's about moving us forward, advancing us, investing in the American people, investing in their ambitions, and addressing their challenges,” she said.
“And the other person, Donald Trump, is trying to set us back.”
“The other one is about fascism. Why can't you say that?” Charlamagne asked, referring to Trump.
“Yes, I can say that,” Harris replied.
The radio host also accused President Trump, 78, of pre-planning to “steal” the election if he lost, and urged Harris not to certify the 2024 election results if she won. He accused the Republican Party of orchestrating the move.
“Why is everyone sitting there acting like Donald Trump won't steal the election even if he loses?” he asked. “…Why do people act as if there will be free and fair elections?”
“If we, the American people, stand up for it, we will have a free and fair election,” Harris said.
The vice president mostly stuck to his talking points, dodging tense questions from Charlamagne and the show's audience. 1-hour show streamed on iHeartRadio And CNN.
At one point, the radio host accused her of “filibustering” callers' questions about reparations, citing her prosecution of black men for minor marijuana offenses as San Francisco district attorney from 2004 to 2011 and her work at the border. I pursued his career.
Harris has increased her media appearances since last week as she looks to win over American votes in the final homestretch.
