Kamala Harris Critiques Biden’s Response to Gaza
In her recently published book, former Vice President Kamala Harris contends that President Joe Biden’s popularity—or lack thereof—has negatively impacted the upcoming 2024 presidential campaign. She draws attention to the ongoing conflict involving Israel and Gaza, as reported by Axios.
Harris expressed her concerns, saying she pleaded with Biden to show the same compassion for innocent Gazans as he does for Ukrainians. “But he couldn’t do that,” she wrote. While he could assert his support for Israel with vigor, his comments on innocent Palestinians felt lackluster and forced.
She also mentioned that she “drew the pin with a hand grenade” during discussions about Biden, implying that her thoughts weren’t fully thought out.
In the 2024 election, Harris faced defeat against Donald Trump, losing both the electoral college and the popular vote.
In her book, titled “107 Days,” which chronicles her brief presidential campaign, Harris claims that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu wanted Trump in the position opposite him, rather than her or Biden.
Harris noted, “I think Israel is justified in responding to the cruelty of October 7th.” However, she criticized Netanyahu for the significant number of Palestinian civilian casualties and the failure to prioritize hostages, which she believes has diminished Israel’s moral standing on the global stage and fueled discontent within Israel itself.
Despite these critiques, Harris has been encouraged by some Democratic figures to bolster support for Palestinians while maintaining a complex relationship with Israel—a balance that seems difficult to achieve.
