Members of the Democratic National Committee's (DNC) finance team called the Harris campaign “self-congratulatory” on a call with major donors on Tuesday, without mentioning what the party could have done better.
Lindy Lee told NewsNation's Connell McShane that she was “stunned by the lack of any follow-up or analysis of this disastrous campaign.”
“We just patted each other on the back,” Lee said. “They praised Harris as a visionary leader, and at one point during the call, she was talking about Thanksgiving recipes.”
Harris' campaign appears to have collapsed after losing to President-elect Trump on Election Day, with some staff quitting permanently due to infighting.
The campaign is now $20 million in debtAccording to a source familiar with the campaign.
Lee has been vocal about the party's financial woes and frustrations on behalf of confused voters and disappointed donors.
She spoke with party leaders in an interview Tuesday on “Pod Save America” after they discussed how more than $1 billion was spent during the nearly 110-day campaign. He called it “detached from reality.''
“They fail to mention that hundreds of millions of dollars flowed to them and their friends through these consulting firms. These consultants are the primary beneficiaries of the Harris campaign, not the American people.” said Mr. Lee.
He added that many people within the party share similar post-election frustrations.
The Harris campaign could raise money to pay off some of these debts and pay those who still need it.
According to federal election commissionSome House and Senate campaigns end up with unpaid debts, including debts to campaign vendors.
roll callreported in March 2023 that 18 members of the House and Senate began the year with election committees owed at least $100,000.
“If they [the DNC] There is no explanation of what happened with the billions of dollars and why hundreds of millions of dollars went to consultants, ice cream, private jets, and celebrities. I don’t think donors are going to donate again,” Lee said. .
