Harris campaign touts Republican Mesa mayor's support in new Arizona ad

Vice President Harris' campaign launched a $370 million advertising blitz on Monday, debuting a 30-second spot highlighting Arizona's Republican mayor's support for the Democratic candidate.

In a new ad titled “Cities,” Mesa Mayor John Giles said he's voting for Harris because she puts “country over party” and will be “an adult” in the White House. .

“In cities like mine, people look out for each other. They put the community first,” Giles begins in the ad.

“I'm a lifelong Republican, but I've always put country before party. I know Donald Trump's second term will be all about himself,” he continued. “That's why, like many other Republicans, I can't support Donald Trump.”

“Kamala Harris and I may not agree on everything, but I know she always puts the country first. If we want to progress as a country, white “We have to have adults in the House. That's why I support Kamala Harris,” he said.

The ad is part of a broader ad campaign aimed at reaching Republican and independent voters. The initiative begins on Labor Day and continues for three weeks until Election Day. The Harris administration said the “Cities” ads will be shown on Fox News as well as local and cable programs such as “Fire Country,” “Shark Tank” and “Chopped.”

Harris' campaign is focused on highlighting support for her from Republican officials. Ms. Harris recently received endorsements from former Sen. Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.) and former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.).

Harris' campaign said she has the support of more than 120 current and former Arizona Republicans.

Arizona is one of seven closely watched battleground states where victory appears within range for either candidate.

Trump currently leads Harris in the state, 48.8% to 47.4%, according to the latest Decision Desk HQ/The Hill polling average.
