Harris ‘Did What She Was Supposed to Do’ with Border

During Friday’s broadcast of NewsNation’s “The Hill,” Rep. John Garamendi (D-Calif.) said Vice President Kamala Harris, a potential 2024 Democratic presidential candidate, “did what she should have done” in her duties at the border.

Garamendi said, “I think she makes a very good argument on the border, which is totally wrong. She was given a very specific mandate to deal with Central American countries. She’s put about $5 billion into those countries, and she’s very, very significantly reduced the number of asylum seekers leaving those countries. So in that sense, she’s done what she had to do. Immigration is certainly going to be an issue going forward. But frankly, I have a very serious problem with Republicans and with Trump. A bipartisan bill … Border Patrol, dealing with the processing that these people need, providing a way to close, all of that was in a bipartisan bill. And guess who killed it? Donald Trump singlehandedly killed a massive effort and billions of dollars that would have been spent on strengthening the border. So he has a weakness. As for that argument, I’m sure she’ll put it in his face and say, ‘Why did you kill a bill that could have been a huge part of solving the problem?'”
