On Wednesday's “CNN News Central,” Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.) explained why 2024 Democratic vice presidential nominee Kamala Harris isn't currently implementing the economic proposals she's pledged to make, saying, “She's served as vice president and supported a president who's created 15 million jobs, more than any president in my lifetime, but that doesn't mean gas is as affordable as it should be, that doesn't mean groceries are as affordable as they should be, that doesn't mean hard-working people have enough housing.”
“What we're hearing from members of Congress, from Republicans, is, if Vice President Harris wants to propose this for small businesses, why hasn't she done it yet, why hasn't she done it in the last three and a half years, why haven't they done what she's promising now,” co-host John Berman asked.
Swalwell responded, “She's been vice president and she's supported a president who's created 15 million jobs, more than any president in my lifetime. But that doesn't mean gasoline and groceries are as affordable as they should be, and it doesn't mean that hard-working people have enough housing. So she has ambitious goals and she believes she can build on the success of the Biden economy. That's what you're seeing in the announcement today and what you're going to see in the contrast next week.” Look, you don't have to imagine what it would be like if Donald Trump and Kamala Harris were on the same stage. She talks about the future and ideas and how to get there, but Trump is stuck in the past and I don't hear any ideas other than that she understands that he's a damaged human being and this is totally about him and she's totally about you.”
