Harris holds 1-point national lead over Trump: Survey

With less than 25 days until the election, Vice President Harris has a slight advantage over former President Trump, according to a new poll.

A majority of respondents to the poll, 86%, said it was not yet clear who would win the White House on November 5, underscoring how close the race remains.

About 36% said the Democratic nominee would make a “good or excellent” president. According to the survey, about 18% said she would be average, and nearly half (46%) said she would be “bad or terrible” in the role.

Trump received similar results, with nearly one in five (48%) saying he would be a “terrible” commander-in-chief. About 41 percent said he was “good or excellent,” while just 11 percent said he was “average,” according to the data.

Polls show that 89% of voters believe the Republican presidential candidate will change the landscape in Washington, nearly 20 percentage points ahead of Harris' 70%. A majority of survey respondents believe that both Trump, 48%, and Harris, 41%, will change Washington for the worse.

The numbers follow another poll released Thursday by The Economist/YouGov that showed Harris leading Trump by 4 points among likely voters (49% to 45% for Trump). It was done. The poll found that when broken down only among registered voters, Harris' lead fell to just 3 points.

Nationally, the vice president narrowly leads the former president by 2.9 percentage points (49.7% to 46.8%), according to a Hill/Decision Desk headquarters poll.

The Pew Research poll was conducted from September 30 to October 6 among 5,110 adults, including 4,025 registered voters. The margin of error was 1.7 percentage points.
