Harris invokes Jimmy Carter in bid to get supporters to vote early

Vice President Kamala Harris on Saturday urged her supporters in Georgia to vote early in the election, noting that former President Jimmy Carter has already voted.

“If Jimmy Carter can vote early, so can you,” Harris said at a rally in Atlanta on Saturday.

Carter, who recently turned 100 and has been in hospice care for more than a year, voted by mail Wednesday, the second day of early voting in his home state of Georgia.

Carter's grandson, Jason Carter, explained in an interview with CNN that the former president needed help to vote.

“He's on hospice care and he's in Georgia… If he needs help voting, he can get help from his family… So he sat down and told everyone he was He talked about what he wanted to do and was excited about it,” said the former president's grandson. He added that the family then dropped off the ballot at Carter's local mailbox.

FOX 59 reports that voting for Harris was one of the former president's ultimate goals, with Carter telling his son Chip in August that he wanted to vote for Kamala Harris. I'm just trying to vote,” he said.

“Thank you President Carter for your support,” Harris wrote on social media Wednesday after learning of Carter's vote.

Jimmy Carter's grandson, former president, says 'the end is near'

Harris is currently running a close race against former President Trump in Carter's home state of Georgia, one of seven battleground states that will play a major role in determining the winner of the presidential election.

Mr. Trump currently holds a narrow 1.8 percentage point lead in the state, according to Real Clear Politics polling averages, and similarly in six other battleground states.

Trump won Georgia by just over 5 points in 2016, but lost the state to President Biden by less than 1 point in 2020.

The Harris campaign did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital's request for comment.
