Former Vice President Kamala Harris criticized Trump during a Monday night appearance, describing the current administration as akin to “communist dictators” in the White House.
In his memoir, released Tuesday and titled “107 Days,” Harris discussed her expectations for Trump’s behavior in a potential second term. She expressed surprise at the extent to which he had been embraced by the private sector.
While speaking with MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow, Harris elaborated on why she hadn’t anticipated this response. She stated, “Industrial titans were expected to serve as the guardrails of our democracy.”
However, she noted, “One by one, they went silent… they weren’t speaking up.” She added, “We’re not losing yachts or homes in Hampton.”
“Democracy supports capitalism, and capitalism flourishes in a democratic context. Now, we treat him like a tyrant following his speech at the Ellipse,” she remarked.
Harris suggested that the lack of public discourse from these titans might stem from fear of Trump’s influence, whether related to mergers or investigations.
In a speech leading up to the 2024 election, Harris labeled Trump a “little tyrant” and cautioned that “the United States should not be a playground for wannabe schemes.”
She referenced the return of late-night host Jimmy Kimmel to his show on Tuesday, framing it as an example of “power with people.”
“The power of the people has been evident in recent days. It made significant waves and prompted decisions that aligned better with our values,” she noted.
On Monday, Disney announced Kimmel’s return after previously suspending him due to comments he made about the assassination of Charlie Kirk. This incident had provoked a strong response from the chair of the Federal Communications Commission, and Kimmel’s suspension drew backlash from Democrats and First Amendment supporters.
