Harris presses Trump to debate again: VP showdown ‘should not be the last word’

Vice President Kamala Harris renewed her call for a second debate with former President Donald Trump on Sunday, appealing to voters in the key battleground state of Nevada, two days before the first vice presidential debate.

“Two days from now, when Coach Walz debates J.D. Vance, I think we'll be rooting for him. But listen, their debate shouldn't be the last word,” Harris said. he told an audience at a rally at the World Market Expo Center in Las Vegas. According to campaign officials, about 7,500 people participated.

“I'm going to debate Donald Trump again. I think he should debate it again. The American people have a right to hear us discuss this issue. As you say here in Las Vegas. , I'm all in. Even if my opponent is ready to fold, I'm all in,” Harris said.

Harris and Trump faced off in their first debate earlier this month. The Democrat is widely seen as the winner, and she accepted an invitation from CNN for a second showdown. But Trump said he would not do another, despite pressure from some within his own party.

In a Quinnipiac University poll released last week, more than six in 10 Americans said they would like to see both candidates return to the debate stage. Last week, the Democratic National Committee (DNC) launched a billboard campaign calling President Trump a “chicken” for not agreeing to a rematch.

The Sept. 10 debate was Trump's first debate with Harris, but it was also noteworthy that it was Trump's second presidential debate of the season. He debated President Biden in June, an incident that is seen as a factor in Biden's historic withdrawal from the race.

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz (D) and Ohio Sen. J.D. Vance will face off in Tuesday's vice presidential debate. If Ms. Harris and Mr. Trump do not agree on a different program, the vice presidential showdown could be the final arguments for both sides.

Nevada's Harris opened the rally by thanking first responders and sending well wishes to those affected by Hurricane Helen in the Southeast. She then touted her economic vision and discussed the need for comprehensive immigration reform.

Nevada is a close race, according to polls, and is seen as one of seven key battleground states that will decide who wins the Oval Office in November. Harris leads by just 2 points in the Silver State and by 4 points nationally, according to the latest polling averages from The Hill/Decision Desk.

Harris' fast-paced candidacy has given Democrats more optimism about a route through the Sun Belt states of Arizona, Nevada and Georgia. Biden wins Nevada Approximately 2 points difference Back in 2020.

Harris raised a total of $55 million from two locations in California over the weekend, campaign officials said. The vice president was attending a fundraiser in Los Angeles on Sunday before heading to Las Vegas for a rally.
