In a fundraising email sent Friday, Vice President Harris said she ate “a family-sized bag of Nacho Doritos” on election night in 2016.
In her email, Harris questioned whether the recipients remembered their own feelings and reactions to Donald Trump’s victory over Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton in the presidential election.
“It was election night for me, too,” Harris said in an email. “It was incredibly bittersweet. When I stepped up to the stage to give my acceptance speech to be elected Senator representing California, I tore up my notes and simply said, ‘We will fight.'”
“Then I went home and sat on the couch with a family-size bag of Nacho Doritos. I didn’t share the chips with anyone. [second gentleman] Doug [Emhoff]”I just watched the TV in complete shock and disappointment,” Harris continued. “Eight years later, two things are certain: I still love Doritos, and we still haven’t stopped fighting.”
After serving four years as a senator, Harris was selected as presidential candidate Joe Biden’s running mate in 2020. After Biden defeated Trump, she became vice president.
Biden last month withdrew from the 2024 presidential race and endorsed Harris as his successor, a move that dramatically altered the presidential race and gave Harris a lead over Trump nationally and in some battleground states.
Vice President Harris currently leads Trump by 1.8 points in The Hill/Decision Desk average of national polls, with her approval rating at 49 percent to the former president’s 47.2 percent.
