Kamala Harris Reacts to Biden’s Withdrawal from 2024 Race
Former Vice President Kamala Harris has spoken out amid the turmoil following Joe Biden’s decision to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race just three and a half months before the election.
In an interview with MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow, Harris discussed her upcoming book, 107 Days, where she reflects on Biden’s unexpected move. She acknowledged that it was not an easy choice for him and hinted that he might have regrets.
“Writing this has made me realize I had a responsibility that I shouldn’t have ignored,” Harris remarked. “When I refer to recklessness, I’m talking about my own actions. It was concerning at the time, and I was worried about coming across as completely selfish.”
Harris also opened up about her feelings, revealing that Biden had expressed “anger” just before a critical debate with Donald Trump. She admitted to having questions about her own response to this significant political shift.
As the timeline compressed to just over 100 days for developing a strategy against Trump, it felt quite unprecedented. The Democrats appeared to be scrambling, while Trump had been preparing his campaign for months, gaining momentum and attacking his rivals on the trail.
Harris noted there were certainly aspects she would have approached differently, although she wasn’t inclined to elaborate on those specifics. Reflecting on the situation, she mentioned seeing people, even those who didn’t seem to share much in common, embracing optimism and hope for what America could achieve.
However, there were criticisms surfacing within her party, questioning her ability to unify the Democrats and capture the support of independents given the limited time available.
