Former President Barack Obama and former first lady Michelle Obama will campaign alongside Vice President Harris in the battleground states of Georgia and Michigan next week.
Obama and Harris plan to be together in Georgia on Thursday, Michelle Obama and Harris will be together in Michigan on October 26, a campaign official said.
The campaign sees the incident between Harris and the Obamas as a way to capitalize on voter enthusiasm and boost get-out efforts in the final two weeks of the campaign, the person said. Early voting begins in Michigan on October 26th, and early voting has already begun in Georgia.
Next week's event with the former first lady will be her first time participating in Harris' campaign this term. Michelle Obama, considered one of the most popular Democrats in the country, shared a video message supporting President Biden in 2020, but has otherwise typically not campaigned since leaving the White House. Not participating.
Meanwhile, the former president campaigned for Harris in Pennsylvania, Arizona and Nevada this month, and plans to visit Michigan and Wisconsin next week. Former President Clinton is following in Harris' footsteps, focusing on appealing to rural voters in the South.
The Obamas gave their most memorable speech at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago in August. The former president called for overcoming the nation's divisions, but the former first lady slammed former President Trump in her remarks.
