Harris-Trump cash dash: This presidential candidate holds fundraising edge in final stretch

Vice President Kamala Harris entered the final stages of the 2024 presidential race with a significant fundraising advantage over former President Donald Trump, according to new federal filings.

Harris raised nearly $190 million for her 2024 campaign in August, more than four times the $44.5 million the Trump campaign reported raising in his main campaign account last month, according to figures released Friday by the Federal Election Commission.

The Harris campaign has spent about $174 million in the last month, significantly more than the Trump campaign, with much of that spending going to creating and running ads aimed at getting Americans to know her after she replaced President Biden as the Democratic nominee for president in 2024 two months ago.

In comparison, the Trump campaign has spent just $61 million, with most of that going to media buys.

But despite Harris's big spending, the vice president's campaign had $235 million in cash on hand as of September, according to Federal Election Commission filings, well above Trump's $135 million.

The latest cash figures are the latest sign of a surge in fundraising since the vice president became the party's standard-bearer.

Both the Harris and Trump campaigns use numerous affiliated fundraising committees to raise money, each of which submits reports on different schedules.

The Harris campaign announced earlier this month that it and its affiliated committees raised $361 million in August, nearly three times the reported $130 million raised by the Trump campaign and its affiliated committees.

The vice president's team also boasted that Harris raised $47 million from some 600,000 donors in the 24 hours after her first and likely only debate with Trump, in Philadelphia earlier this month.

“Democrats have a ton of money. Democrats have always had a ton of money,” Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Whatley told Fox News Digital during the debate's spin room earlier this month when asked about the fundraising deficit.

But he stressed that “we certainly have the resources we need to get our message across to every voter we speak to, and I'm confident we can see this campaign through to the end and win on November 5th.”
