Speaking on Newsmax TV’s “The Record” on Thursday, Harvard Law Professor Emeritus Alan Dershowitz said that Vice President and 2024 Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris “appeared to be creating a moral equivalence” and was “trying to appeal to both the anti-Israel and pro-Israel wings of the left. You can’t do that by creating a false moral equivalence.”
“We must not forget that there are people who try to make a moral equivalence between Hamas and Israel. Even Vice President Kamala Harris, in a statement, seemed to make a moral equivalence between the suffering of the people of Gaza and the suffering of those killed in Israel,” Dershowitz said. “The difference is that Hamas is the reason the people of Gaza are suffering. Hamas is using them as human shields. Hamas is taking away their food. Hamas is firing rockets at mosques and schools. So there is no moral equivalence between Israel’s actions in self-defense, which are trying to minimize civilian deaths, and Hamas’ attempts to increase civilian deaths.”
He continued, “And these useful idiots, as Netanyahu aptly called them, are completely ignorant. They have no idea what they want. They want a ceasefire. But it’s Hamas that’s blocking the ceasefire right now. … So if you want to protest, protest Hamas, if you’re pro-Palestinian, protest Hamas. This is the worst thing that Hamas has done to the Palestinians. So I’m disappointed in Harris’ comments. She was trying to appeal to both the anti-Israel and pro-Israel factions on the left. You can’t do that by creating a false moral equivalence.”
