Fox News legal analyst Jonathan Turley said Wednesday on Fox News Channel's “Fox & Friends” that a Harris-Waltz administration would be a “total nightmare” for free speech.
“We have to take this issue more seriously,” Turley said. “In my new book, 'Essential Rights,' I talk about the growing anti-free speech movement around the world. Its waves are now reaching our shores. And they've had little success convincing people to give up their freedoms, right? It's a tough sell. You have to get free people to give up their freedoms, and it hasn't worked. Facebook has even run a commercial campaign to get young people to embrace censorship. This is Plan B. In Europe, they're threatening to arrest Musk. They've already arrested another CEO of a platform. But I think one country that a lot of people in the anti-free speech movement are watching closely is Brazil. If Brazil succeeds in banning Twitter across the country, we'll see a repeat.”
He continued, “A lot of people hold the view that we've heard from Vice President Harris, who sees speech as a privilege like a driver's license that will be revoked if they're reckless. And this is where this movement will ultimately lead, and if they can't convince people to give up their freedom and accept censorship, they will start taking sites offline so people can't hear opposing views.”
“Frankly, a Harris-Waltz administration would be a total nightmare for free speech,” Turley added.
