Harris-Walz campaign fundraises off Trump’s interview with Musk

Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign sent out a fundraising email blast Monday after former President Donald Trump was interviewed by billionaire Elon Musk, telling supporters she needed the money to “counter their lies.”

“Right now, Elon Musk is live on Twitter interviewing Donald Trump (we won’t call him ‘X’),” the Harris-Waltz campaign’s solicitation message began.

The email urged supporters to “donate $25 now” and accused Musk, 53, of trying to take “control” of “our democracy” by inviting Trump, 78, for a highly anticipated conversation about X.

“Musk’s pledge to donate millions of dollars to help Trump’s reelection is not enough,” the Harris-Waltz campaign wrote.

“Trump is using the platform he bought, one of the largest social media sites in the world, to spread his crazy and hateful agenda to millions of users.”

The campaign accused the Tesla and SpaceX CEOs of being “stooges of Team MAGA.”

Musk endorsed Trump for president last month, minutes after the assassination attempt on the former commander in chief, and the world’s richest man also reportedly plans to donate millions of dollars to a super PAC aligned with the Trump campaign.

However, X’s owner insists he doesn’t consider himself a “MAGA” (Make America Great Again) person.

“I think America is a great country,” Musk said in an interview last month. “I’m of the MAG, Make America Greater mindset.”

“Musk has already ruined Twitter by allowing hate speech and misinformation to run rampant. Now he is using his enormous wealth and broad influence to try to control our democracy,” the fundraising email concluded.

The Harris-Waltz campaign released a separate statement after Trump’s X-Space appearance, claiming the interview was “out of whack” and blaming Musk for technical issues that delayed the start of the broadcast by about 30 minutes.

“Donald Trump’s extremism and dangerous Project 2025 policies are a feature, not a flaw, of our campaign, and that was made perfectly clear to those unfortunate enough to tune in tonight on X.com,” campaign spokesman Joseph Costello said.

“The Trump campaign is run by self-absorbed rich people like Elon Musk and Trump himself who have betrayed the middle class and won’t be able to live stream in 2024,” Costello added.

Musk claimed the delay was due to a “massive” cyber attack ahead of the event.

The billionaire then invited Harris to meet with him.

“We are pleased to host Kamala at X Spaces as well.” he tweeted early Tuesday morning..
