“Here at Storm, we are champions of equality and opportunity. We need leaders who will always fight for us all,” the organization wrote to X. “Kamala Harris and Tim Walz are strongly aligned with our mission and values, and we proudly support this presidential team.”

Phoenix Mercury guard Natasha Cloud called the support “powerful,” but the WNBA franchise also received backlash against the X over the announcement.

The campaign endorsed President Biden and Harris before the 2020 presidential election.

This is the first time a Democratic presidential candidate has won Washington state since 1988, when Michael Dukakis ran against George H.W. Bush. The state followed a Republican path from 1972 to 1984, with Richard Nixon, Gerald Ford and Ronald Reagan elected twice.

In 2020, Biden defeated Trump 58% to 38.8%.

In King County, where Seattle is located, the Biden-Harris district won 74.95% of the vote in 2020. In 2016, Hillary Clinton and Tim Kaine led the county with 71.94% of the vote.
