On CNN’s “Inside Politics” Monday, Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D-Mich.) said she was “frustrated” that voters aren’t giving President Joe Biden enough credit for his economic performance, “but I think people have been through some really hard times recovering from the COVID pandemic. It’s been really hard and, frankly, they’ve seen some price gouging.” And Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic presidential nominee in 2024, will “build on” Biden’s economic record.

Stabenow said Harris’s platform will “build on the foundations laid over the past four years,” praising the Biden administration’s record on economic policy. She also said she will “focus on next steps on health care so people don’t have to choose between food and medicine,” saying she will take next steps to “build on” Biden’s record.

host Dana Bash asked.[I]”It’s no secret that the biggest frustration for the Biden campaign has been all the accomplishments you just mentioned and the fact that voters don’t value them. Do you think that if she were the top candidate and presumably put forward the same policies, that would lead to a different outcome, voter understanding, or level of support?”

“I think I was frustrated when I looked at what we accomplished in the first two years of this administration when Democrats were fully in control. We expanded health care for veterans, we did incredible things,” Stabenow said. [the] “It’s frustrating, but I think people are going through a really hard time recovering from COVID-19. It’s really hard and, frankly, we’ve seen price gouging.”

Stabenow added that “it’s been a while since we’ve moved the ship” from previous economic policies, and that Harris is “going to move the ship even further on making things in America, growing the middle class, making sure costs are coming down across the board. And she’s going to build on the foundation that’s already been laid.”
