Harry Enten Indicates Americans Prefer Trump's Approach to Crime Over Biden's

Americans Favor Trump’s Crime Approach Over Biden’s

CNN’s senior data reporter, Harry Enten, mentioned on Thursday that many Americans prefer how former President Donald Trump handles crime compared to President Joe Biden.

As of August, Trump held a +1 approval rating regarding crime, while Biden’s stood at an underwater -26. This disparity, Enten pointed out, indicates that voters are more concerned about crime than Congressional Democrats might realize. “Biden’s numbers on crime are not just bad; they’re one of his weakest issues overall,” Enten noted. In contrast, Trump’s numbers are substantially better.

Looking ahead to 2024, Biden’s approval on crime is struggling, whereas Trump seems to resonate more positively with the public regarding this topic.

In March 2024, Trump’s net approval on crime from his first term was -13 points, but it seems that public sentiment has shifted positively as people consider his second term. “Yes, Americans view Trump’s approach to crime much more favorably than they did just a year ago,” Enten stated. Yet, he acknowledged that the polling doesn’t capture all the complexities of the current situation in Washington, D.C.

On a related note, Trump plans to reestablish law and order in the capital next week, marking a move reminiscent of his deployment of the National Guard during chaotic riots in Los Angeles earlier this year.

Since the beginning of Trump’s second term, over 300,000 illegal immigrants linked to serious crimes have been apprehended by ICE. This has contributed to what some describe as the lowest illegal border crossing rates in history, contrasting sharply with the record surges seen under the Biden administration.

Biden’s tenure has been marked by significant increases in illegal crossings, which have directly correlated with tragic incidents involving illegal immigrants.
