Harvard Corporation Overrules Faculty; ‘Encampment’ Seniors Will Not Graduate

The Harvard Board of Trustees, the university’s highest authority and a centuries-old organization, overruled the faculty vote and approved the board’s decision to block the graduation of 13 “encampment” activists.

The Harvard University Board of Trustees has rejected an attempt by the College of Arts and Sciences to award degrees to 13 seniors facing disciplinary charges for participating in pro-Palestinian camps, an unprecedented veto that marks a new chapter in the internal fighting that has rocked Harvard for the past year.

“Today, we voted to award 1,539 degrees to outstanding Harvard students,” the companies said in a joint statement Wednesday. “The students included as a result of Monday’s amendment are not in good standing, and we cannot responsibly vote to award their degrees at this time.”

On Thursday, pro-Palestinian students walked out of Harvard University’s commencement or commencement ceremony in protest.
