Hasan Piker Calls on Democrats for Support Amid Criticism
During a livestream on Wednesday, far-left streamer Hasan Piker reached out to Democratic leaders, urging them to support him and embrace him as part of their coalition. This plea comes as criticism from Republicans regarding his rhetoric intensifies, especially with critical midterm elections approaching. In response, a former aide to President Joe Biden suggested on Thursday that candidates should distance themselves from Piker and focus on local concerns instead.
Piker identified himself as a member of the Democratic coalition and claimed that Republican criticism of him is merely a diversion from what he termed the “cost of living crisis.” He stated, “Democrats, listen to me. I know we don’t always see eye to eye on a lot of things, but at some point you’re literally going to have to defend me — and I know you don’t want to — defend me.” He argued that regardless of personal beliefs, Democrats must confront the reality of the situation, saying, “This is a stupid conversation because the real conversation that Republicans don’t want to have is the cost of living crisis.”
He also indicated that, for Democrats to effectively challenge negative portrayals of him, they must acknowledge their own positions more candidly. “For that to happen, you basically have to accept L a little bit and be a little more honest about how you’re not such a dangerous, harmful extremist,” Piker asserted. However, Yemisi Egbewole, a moderate Democratic strategist, cautioned against endorsing Piker, expressing disbelief at the idea, stating, “Democrats don’t need to hire every influencer who happens to support some Democratic candidate.” Egbewole warned that aligning with Piker would only prolong the political debate around him.
The conflict unfolds in battleground states where Piker has been actively campaigning. After supporting Michigan Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed, who narrowly defeated moderate Rep. Haley Stevens, Piker rallied alongside Wisconsin gubernatorial candidate Francesca Hong. Following her loss in the primary, Piker lauded the initiatives he believed boosted turnout among Democrats in the area.
In a twist, David Crowley, another Democratic candidate for governor in Wisconsin, has declared he will not campaign with Piker, stating, “I don’t want to give credibility to a platform that I think will further divide us.” In response to Crowley’s comment, Piker wished him well in the elections but suggested that Crowley should take note of policies that appeal to voters.
Additionally, some voices within the party have emphasized the need to disown Piker altogether to minimize distractions from core issues. Freelance journalist Magdy Jacobs noted that if Democrats want to steer clear of discussions surrounding Piker, the most logical step would be to distance themselves from him entirely. The lingering question remains whether Democrats will heed these concerns as the election approaches.
Fox News Digital reached out to both Piker and the Democratic National Committee for comments but did not receive any immediate responses.
