Hatch Baby, a popular brand among new parents, has recalled about one million power adapters sold with its first-generation Rest sound machine because some of its products pose an electric shock hazard.
In a recall warning from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, the company said the plastic housing surrounding the AC power adapter for certain audio devices could detach when the product is unplugged from an outlet, “exposing the power plug and posing a shock hazard to consumers.”
The recall affects approximately 919,400 vehicles with model number CYAP05 050100U sold in the United States and approximately 44,352 sold in Canada.
The model number, 1.0A amp, “Jiangsu Chenyang Electron Co. LTD” and “Made in China” are printed in black near the adapter’s plug.
The affected power adapters have a white rectangular plastic housing that plugs directly into a power outlet and are not sold separately.
The recall came after the company received 19 reports of defects in the power adapter casing, including two reports from consumers who experienced mild electric shocks.
The sound machine was sold from January 2019 to September 2022 online at Hatch.co and Amazon, as well as in BuyBuyBaby, Target, Walmart, Nordstrom, Pottery Barn Kids and BestBuy stores.
The item sold for between $60 and $70 at the aforementioned stores during that time period, and between $60 and $200 on Amazon from January 2019 to May 2024.

Hatch is urging anyone who has an affected power adapter to stop using it immediately and contact the company to receive a free replacement.
Consumers are asked to cut the cord of their power adapter, take a photo of the cut cord, indicating the model number, and upload the photo to the “Adapter Recall” page on Hatch’s website, along with their name and mailing address.
The CPSC also said Hatch is contacting all registered owners directly.
