Hateful graffiti at San Jose State demands the removal of Jews.

Graffiti with anti-Semitic messages was discovered at San Jose State University, demanding the “eradication of Jews” and urging students to “make Osama proud.” This hateful content appeared on March 11 and 12.

One of the messages referred to a comparison with a past terrorist attack, stating, “Sorry SJSU, but by the grace of Allah 3/11 will be 9/11.”

These incidents come on the heels of recent violent assaults targeting two Jewish individuals, who reported their attacks were motivated by their faith. University officials expressed concerns about potential escalation of violence.

Philip Heller, president of the SJSU Jewish Faculty Association, recognized that while this incident didn’t involve physical violence, it could lead to more serious situations. He mentioned that they had previously witnessed such violence and are apprehensive about the future. Heller encouraged students to attend counseling sessions, but no one showed up, likely due to concerns about gathering Jewish students during a threatening time.

In response, the university communicated to the entire campus that they had removed the graffiti from restrooms and found no credible threat after investigation.

Heller reflected on the need for action and conversation to create a safer environment for Jewish students, appreciating the administration’s engagement in these discussions.
